Latin name Fratercula Arctica, the Puffin is part of the family of Auks. An unmistakable bird displaying a brightly coloured bill, orange legs, red and black eye markings and large pale cheeks. The UK has over 580,000 breading pairs and one of the best places to view these birds in on the Isle of May off the Fife coast. Adults arrive at the breeding colonies in late March early April. They leave in mid August after hatching and rearing their chicks on sandeels. Some will winter in the North Sea others head south to the Bay of Biscay.
